Every August in New Jersey, the white noise from the crickets reminds us summer is winding down. It is a cue to sneak in as many moments of peaceful reflection as possible before the lazy summer slips away. Whether it’s daydreaming in the hammock, sneaking away for one last vacation, or going for an after-dinner bike ride, these are our moments to seize. We also pause and take stock, every August, of how pharmacy automation has evolved in the past year and where it is predicted to develop over the next few years. Hence, we are very pleased to bring you our third annual survey on the State of Pharmacy Automation. |

Computerized Prescriber Order Entry |
|
|
Computerized Prescriber Order Entry (CPOE) is the technology to watch this year. While 28% of hospitals report having CPOE systems in place, just 59% of these hospitals are sending most of their medication orders via CPOE, suggesting that 41% of CPOE users have not yet fully implemented their systems. The satisfaction rates for CPOE reflect a technology in the relatively early stages of adoption. 88% of users report satisfaction with their systems, but few confer ratings of "excellent," suggesting further room for improvement.
